Essential Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine

Essential Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine

Anti-Aging Skincare RoutineAging and mature skin needs a specific skin care regimen that not only covers the basic cleansing, toning and moisturizing requirements, but also specifically targets the telltale signs of aging. Consistent efforts to minimize the signs of aging are needed in order to see the best results, so be sure to follow this routine each day. It may look like a number of steps, but it can all be completed in under two minutes in the morning and at night.

Remember that with each step, use a gentle touch, and apply in an upward and outward direction. Facial skin is much thinner than the skin elsewhere on our bodies, and also lacks the elasticity of young skin. You don’t want to help gravity along by pulling or tugging downward on your skin, as it won’t bounce back. Don’t forget to use all of these steps on your neck as well.

First, select a gentle cleanser that is made for your skin type that cleans away dirt and sweat without stripping the skin of natural oils. It’s not as important to search for anti-aging specific cleansers, as they are just rinsed off of your face, and do not penetrate the skin. Massage gently into skin and rinse off with warm water. Gently pat the skin dry.

Next, use an antioxidant toner applied to a cotton ball to gently swipe across your face to remove any makeup or dirt that the cleanser missed. This balances the pH in your skin and leaves it as a clean canvas, ready for the products to be applied.

Next apply facial serum. This is the product that should be packed with antioxidants, peptides, vitamins and other age-fighting ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid. Serums with these ingredients penetrate deeply into the skin and will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two elements critical to building a string support foundation for the skin.

If you’re using targeted treatments for fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, you’ll apply these now.

Finally, select a moisturizer for your skin type. Look for powerful anti-aging ingredients in your facial moisturizer as well. Take a small amount and, just like the other steps, massage into your face and neck using gentle, upward strokes.

It may seems like a lot of steps, but it really can be completed quickly. Follow this routine twice a day with quality products and you’ll soon be on your way to seeing and feeling the difference that a quality age fighting skin care routine can bring.

  1. I knew about some of these steps/products, but I hadn’t heard of facial serum before. I think I’ve been missing out!

I find that I have to be really careful with moisturizers because sometimes they leave my skin feeling a little greasy or “coated” with product. Do you have any tips for selecting a good moisturizer, maybe specific ingredients to look for?

  2. Hey Margaret, it’s great to see you on our blog!

Until recently, facial serums were predominantly used by skincare professionals as an advanced treatment. Luckily for us, they are now widely available for all of us to use in our daily skincare routines 🙂

I say luckily for us because, for the majority of us, facial serums give better results than creams.

As far as selecting a good moisturizer, it really depends on your skin type…

Normal skin – Choose a water based moisturizer with cetyl alcohol or cyclomethicone.

Dry skin – Go for an oil-based moisturizer with antioxidants to help hydrate your skin.

Oily skin – What you need to remember with oily skin is it still needs moisture. You should select a “noncomedogenic” moisturizer (it should be labelled as such).

Sensitive skin – You need to select a fragrance free product in this instance. Chamomile and aloe are ingredients you should look out for.

Aged skin – As we get older our skin tends to become drier. Oil based moisturizers containing antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and hydroxy acids are the way to go here as they help prevent fine lines and wrinkles and help keep the moisture in.

I hope this helps Margaret…let me know if you have any more questions.

  3. These products are wonderful!!!!!!!! I have used many expensive product lines, the benefits do not outweigh the cost. I am 65 and can tell a significant difference in my fine lines and deeper wrinkles especially around the eyes and mouth. For the price and results of the products you just can’t go wrong. After 40 years of searching for a product that does what it says, I will never buy any other products.
